Dallas, Texas – Next in the lineup for Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s (DBDT) 49th season is CATALYST, the latest evolution of the annual acclaimed Director’s Choice performance series, November 7 & 8 at the Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre.
This production, made possible by Presenting Sponsor Texas Instruments and Choreography Sponsor The Dallas Foundation, includes exclusive world premieres from Krystal Butler, Nycole Ray and Christen Reyes, alongside the return of a well-loved repertory work, Lost in Memory by 2023 Guggenheim Fellow Nejla Yatkin.
Making its return to the DBDT stage for the first time since 2013, Lost in Memory by Nejla Yatkin originally premiered with the company in 2006. The work is reflective and filled with physicality, encouraging viewers to consider the highs, lows and rituals that make us human.
A Love I Once Knew is supported by a grant from the Jean Baptiste “Tad” Adoue III Fund of The Dallas Foundation. Choreographed by Krystal Butler, a former dancer and guest artist with Pilobolus Dance Theater, the work provides a glimpse of the forms of love that are encountered in one’s lifetime. The Breath Within by DBDT alumni, Nycole Ray, offers a tender and introspective journey through the essence of connection while Christen Reyes, former DBDT: Encore! dancer and artistic assistant, and current Director & Founder of Fort Worth ISD’s I.M. Terrell Dance Department, asks what the true price of living is in The Wage of Existence.
Brought together for Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s season premiere, all four works culminate into a deeply personal and boundless program for audiences to explore.
Experience the special two-night only season premiere at the Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre November 7-8 at 7:30pm. In-person and virtual tickets are available now!
