Jr. Staff Accountant

  • The Jr. Staff Accountant will provide support to the Controller and Accounting Department to ensure that DBDT’s accounting systems, policies and procedures and financial accounting goals are achieved.

  • • Perform daily reconciliation of account transactions and ensure DBDT internal documentation has been received and uploaded in QuickBooks.

    • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all credit and debit transactions for the company checking, saving, and investing accounts.

    • Receive all forms of payment from the Dallas Black Dance Academy Registrar and/or mail and prepare the bank deposit.

    • Perform data entry for company receipts, disbursements, and bank deposits.

    • Act as the primary administrator of the DBDT debit and credit cards for submitting payments that include all proper internal documentation and have been approved through the DBDT payment authorization process.

    • Prepare checks for expenses that include all proper internal documentation and have been approved through the DBDT payment authorization process.

    • Prepare salaried employee payroll report for direct deposit submission.

    • Prepare independent contractor payment worksheet and check payments for administrative staff and other specified contractors.

    • Coordinate the distribution of independent contractor payments by preparing and ensuring the completion of a payment sign out sheet to verify payment.

    • Make 941 payroll tax deposits in accordance with IRS requirements/deadlines.

    • Create Profit & Loss and Budget vs. Actual reports from QuickBooks data in accordance with DBDT procedures.

    • Maintain project reporting and assist with major projects such as fundraising events, conferences, festivals, etc.

    • Conduct research and perform reconciliation for all audit activities as assigned by the Controller and/or Executive Director

    • Identify and immediately follow up regarding incomplete requests to ensure company documentation requirements and/or other obligations are met.

    • Provide clerical support to all accounting and daily ongoing financial activities.

    • Attend designated meetings and represent Dallas Black Dance Theatre at artistic, community, fundraising and publicity events

    • Support the policies and goals set by Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Board of Directors

    • Other duties assigned by the Controller and/or Executive Director include, but are not limited to, the following financial activities: general ledger, AR, AP, bank reconciliation, payroll, preparation of monthly financial reports, audit preparation and budget and development and monitoring.

  • • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting

    • QuickBooks Desktop (Required)

    • Proficient in Excel/Microsoft 365

    • Nonprofit and/or arts experience is a plus

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that include the ability to write effective business memos and correspondence appropriate for all levels

    • Ability to effectively work with professional staff, develop good relationships with an inclusive workplace and support a collaborative team-oriented work environment

    • Respond to emails in a timely manner, researching questions when necessary.

    • Ability to work independently, use self-initiated follow-up to meet deadlines and proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.

    • Run and analyze accounts payable / receivable aging reports

    • Support budgeting processes, audit related requests and other duties as assigned

    • Excellent skills in customer relations, customer service and vendor management.

    • Ability to meet deadlines.

    • Able to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    • Ability to work effectively in a small, fast-paced, multi-faceted organization

  • Salary ranges from $48,000 to $50,000 and based on experience. Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s benefits include employer-provided health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, and a retirement plan.
