
Dallas Black Dance Academy is the official school of Dallas Black Dance Theatre, training the next generation of dancers to be the best in the areas of Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop and African dance.
Established in 1997 by Founder/Artistic Director Ann Williams, the performing ensembles of Dallas Black Dance Academy represents the top students of the Academy.
Bloom
(hot button to headshots with names)Students age 11 to 15, who have intensively trained at the Academy and have excelled in the Dallas Black Dance Theatre Summer programs are invited to audition for Bloom, the Performing Company of Dallas Black Dance Academy. This group had the pleasure to provide a cultural exchange performance in Uganda, Africa at the 2008 Kwetu Festival and will be performing at the 2010 Orange Bowl in Miami in January. Bloom is under the direction of Mrs. Nycole Ray, a veteran dancer of Dallas Black Dance Theatre. Her career with Dallas Black Dance Theatre includes dancer and choreographer.
Junior Performing Ensemble
(Hot button to headshots with names)Students' age 9 to 12 that show exceptional promise are encouraged to audition for the school's Junior Performing Ensemble. This young group performs locally at festivals and various community events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and will begin their season with a performance at DBDT's own DanceAfrica Festival and the new AT&T Performing Arts Center with Bloom, DBDT II and the Dallas Black Dance Theatre professional company. The Junior Performing Ensemble is directed by Miss Bravita Threatt, from Newport News, Virginia and she is in her second season with Dallas Black Dance Theatre's professional company.
